MGM Studios V. Grogster LTD

This copyright case was filed in 2003 by MGM Studios and 28 other entertainment companies against Grogster and Steamcast because they offered a file sharing system of stored information such as movies, books and music. Grogster replied that “If the movie copyright were to be found in favor of plainlift, that it would create potential grounds for movie copyright organizations to seek damages in a number of previous acts believed to be related with peer to peer file sharing and copyright infringement.” Later on that year, the charges were dismissed due to its parallels to the Sony Corp v. Universal Studios movie copyright case and its final verdict.
